What To Expect: Contact Lens Exams

You may have thought about getting contact lenses, but you were unsure of the process. At North Bay Optometric Vision Center in Rohnert Park, CA, our optometrists can complete a comprehensive eye exam to see if you are a good fit. Here’s what you can expect from a contact lens exam at our Rohnert Park clinic.

Discuss Contact Lens Preferences and Options

During the exam, we will ask about your lifestyle and lens preferences. From there, our optometrists can then determine which type of lenses are best for you. Even if traditional lenses don’t work for your eyes, we provide hard-to-fit contacts. Our optometry office offers disposable contact lenses, weekly and monthly options, and toric lenses for astigmatism.

Measurements

Our optometrists will take measurements of your eyes during the exam to check the diameter you need for lenses. We will also take measurements of your pupils and iris. Last, our eye doctors will ensure that your eyes produce enough tears with a tear film evaluation. Your eyes need to stay moist while you have contacts in.

Learning How to Use Contacts

Once you are fitted, our team will have you use a trial pair of contacts. The trial pair will be used to teach you how to put the lenses in and take them out. We will also teach you how to take care of your contact lenses, and you will start wearing your standard lenses. It generally only takes about one week to get used to wearing contact lenses.
